Dear Families,
We would like to acknowledge that US Citizenship
and Immigrations Services (USCIS) released a statement
this week in regards to DNA testing and its implications
for Vietnamese adoptions. USCIS and the US Department of
State (DOS) held a meeting yesterday, May 29, 2008 in
Hanoi for all agency representatives. Mary Ann Russell,
officer in charge at the USCIS office in Ho Chi Minh
City, reiterated that DNA testing will not be mandatory
for all cases and will be considered on a case by case
basis. This message seems to be consistent with our
prior knowledge of how DNA testing will be
implemented.
As a reminder, the call to action for Joint Council
on International Children's Services (JCICS) A Child's
Right Campaign for Vietnam is on June 2, 2008.
If you have not done so already, we hope you enlist the
help of your family and friends to support the causes of
this campaign.
With warm regards,
