U.S. citizens in good standing can adopt internationally. CHSFS requests that adoptive parents be between the ages of 22 and 50 to adopt an infant.

Countries have policies and requirements that adoptive applicants must meet regarding marital status, age, income, and health.  There are a few countries that allow single people to adopt. We are unaware of any international referral source that places children with gay or lesbian persons. In some countries, requirements may be more flexible for children with known medical and developmental needs and for older children.  See the general requirements of each country on the international adoption chart.

Uncertain whether you meet the requirements of a specific country? Be sure to ask, or check the country fact sheets listed under each country. From most countries, we can request a pre-approval for you.
