| In Vietnam children are often orphaned or relinquished by young women at birth due to poverty, cultural stigmas attached to unwed motherhood, or the lack of social safety nets. These children are then cared for in provincial care centers called Trung Tam Mai Am Gia Dinh or "warm/cozy family center" in Vietnamese.
Most of the children awaiting adoption in Vietnam are infants and toddlers, both boys and girls. Some of the children may have been born prematurely or have a lower birth weight. Child referral information is minimal. CHSFS staff in Vietnam and in the U.S. will do their best to assist parents in receiving some background information and photographs.
CHSFS helps support several of these centers in Vietnam by refurbishing their nursery rooms and by donating goods, medicines and other humanitarian aid.
