Older children making the transition to adoption need support from their families and the professionals who serve them. They may be eligible for special education services in the schools and therapy support within the community.

Families adjusting to a new family configuration also need support and the knowledge that there is "light at the end of the tunnel." Other experienced families are often the best support during challenging times.

Parent Support Group meets once a month and is a place for parents to come together for sharing support and ideas. When the adoption home study is done, this is a good time to begin to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of others. We also have mentor families who can offer one-to-one support.

Life Planning is a program for children who are, or have been, in the foster care system. This program helps children understand the issues and circumstances that brought them into the foster care system. It also normalizes their life experiences through a group process in which children can interact with other foster and adoptive children with similar backgrounds.

Kids' Time is a monthly group for kids whose families are experiencing an adoption. Kids come together to talk to each other about their fears and challenges as well as to have fun. While the kids are working with our staff, parents are welcome to stay and talk with one another or take time for themselves.
