She works with families who are just starting the adoption process by presenting information at orientation meetings and discussing their options via phone and email. Debby is fluent in Spanish and enjoys learning about different cultures. She has a BA in education and spent some time traveling and teaching in Mexico before entering the social services field.

Deb is also the person who can give you advice on international adoptions from countries where we have no formal program. Deb has worked in adoption for many years, and her experience includes Adoptive Families of America publication work.

She has worked directly with families throughout the adoption process and can help families and social workers with homestudy questions, country requirements, and adoption preparation. Cara's background includes a BA in Child Development and an MA in Social Work. Prior to joining CHSFS, she worked with children and families in a variety of settings including schools and treatment programs.

Prior to coming to CHSFS, she was living in Beijing studying Mandarin Chinese. During college, Julie spent time in Shanghai studying and doing research. After graduation, Julie served in the U.S. military in Korea and Japan, and volunteered at an orphanage in Korea.

Andrea has long had an interest in working with children and families. Prior to coming to CHSFS, she worked in the field of international education as well as English as a Second Language. During college, Andrea spent time living and studying Mandarin in Beijing and Tianjin, China. Following graduation, she spent time working at a Chinese language camp, where there were many adopted children from China. Andrea brings a great understanding of Chinese language and culture to our program.

She also monitors our humanitarian aid projects, such as our Tianjin Foster Care project and other initiatives with the CCAA, such as the Project of Love. Sarah was born and raised in Hubei Province, in Central China by the Yangtze River. Her degree is from Xi’An Foreign Language Institute. She has traveled to and lived in more than 20 provinces in China, and helped families adopt by serving as their facilitator in China as well as leading them through the paper trail in the US.

She was born and raised in Malaysia to a Chinese family that includes five adopted members. She speaks Mandarin among several Chinese dialects. Woo also assists with our Thailand program and her family tree has some Thai heritage in addition to being Chinese. Prior to working at CHSFS she worked as an interpreter for the US immigration court. She came to the US to pursue a college education. As a parent, she shares similar interests and concerns of other parents whose families are multicultural.

David Pan 952-454-1448 China@chsfs.org China Travel Specialist and Liaison to China Adoption Staff David assists families with their travel plans as they get ready to travel to China. He also is our chief liaison to our adoption facilitators who work with families during their adoption trips in China. David has worked with our China Program since its beginning in 1992. In addition to supporting the adoption program, David helps facilitate travel for families returning to China on birthland journeys. David grew up and attended college and graduate school in China; he moved with his family to Minnesota in the late 1980's.

Molly supervises both the adoption process and our humanitarian aid projects in China. She has traveled extensively throughout China's rural and urban areas and has a special interest in Chinese culture and language, having lived in China as both a student and teacher. Prior to joining the China team at CHSFS in 2003, she studied in Tianjin, China and volunteered at Tianjin Children's Welfare Institute. She speaks Mandarin as well as reads and writes Chinese language.

Jane manages the Korea Porgam acting as liaison between adoptive families and adoption agencies in Korea. Jane also acts as the agency's Korean translator and directs the agency's post-adtpion birthland tours to Korea. Jane holds a BA in Political Science and an MA in International Relations. Jane lived and worked in Korea for over a decade. She is honored to work with adoptive familise and adoptive persons at the beginning of their adoption journeys and then later in life when they re-connect with birthland and heritage.

Amy grew up doing synchronized swimming and now is a coach, which she really enjoys.

Her main duties in the East European program include talking to families about adoption from Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. She is originally from Romania, has degrees in languages and education and extensive experience in teaching. She spent time working with children in orphanges and was involved in many humanitarian aid projects in Romania.

Her passion for Latin American adoption began as a teenager when she volunteered at FANA in Colombia. She majored in Spanish and English, is a writer and poet and writes the Colombia newsletter and local press articles on adoption. She will complete her MFA in writing in the Spring of 2008.

Yen joined the Vietnam Team in May 2007 as its Program Coordinator. She immigrated to Minnesota in 1976 from France to reunite with her family who had arrived in the U.S. in 1975 after the Vietnam War ended. Yen graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Clinical Lab Sciences. She travels frequently to Vietnam, prior to joining CHSFS staff, as a volunteer in many Vietnamese American NGOs with humanitarian aid projects in Vietnam. Since 2002, Yen has been a regular volunteer at Catalyst Vietnam Culture Camps, getting to know many adoptive families and their children from around the country. Her main responsibilities include helping families through their dossier preparation, referral process and travel assistance. As a Vietnamese American with bilingual and bicultural background, she can assist families with their specific questions about Vietnam culture and its traditions and customs.

She has worked in the India, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Russian programs and has a degree in Child Psychology. Lisa is very familiar with the international adoption process and has spent time in orphanages abroad.

She is also a social worker in the program. Her work involves finding families for waiting children from all over the world. The WIC program placed over 120 kids in 2004, both here in MN and around the country. She has worked for CHSFS for 18 years and 8 in the WIC program. Her family is built through adoption and she considers it is a privilege to work with many other families who wish to do the same.

She travels to present international adoption programming information to interested families at partner agencies and communicates with clients and partners long-distance. Her passion for international adoption began when she spent two months volunteering in an orphanage in Tamilnadu, India ten years ago. She has also lived in Spain and Ireland and traveled extensively to other parts of the world. She has degrees in Psychology and English from the University of Minnesota and has studied Russian and Spanish.

She is a licensed social worker, who received her MSW from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Kate lived in New England for many years and maintains ties to the area.

Azur Idalí Walters first came to CHSFS as an academic intern (in Post Adoption Services) while earning her Bachelor's in Social Work at Metropolitan State University. Following the internship, she accepted a temporary position as a Vietnam & Thailand Adoption Program Specialist. Azur then decided to pursue her Master's in Social Work at the University of Minnesota, and returned to us for another internship as a General Adoption Social Worker. From these diverse experiences, Azur has a unique and dynamic understanding of the programs and family services.

Kjersti is the program director for all countries and directly supervises the Latin American Programs. Her passion for helping orphaned children began when she regularly volunteered at an orphanage in Bolivia, where she lived and worked for 4 years. Kjersti holds a B.A. in Journalism and will be completing her Ph.D. in Family Education in June 2008.

She consults with the adoption supervisors and social workers and interfaces with clients in difficult cases. Becky consults with intake on applicants with complex histories. She presents regularly at parent training workshops. Becky has a Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota and is licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
