- Families receive training in all aspects of successfully operating the business.
- These families work together in groups of five around the successful creation, management, marketing and future growth of a collective small business.
- Families receive $6 per month as well as assistance with the rental of space and purchase of equipment necessary for the business. Grouped families will be responsible for gradually paying back their small, interest free loan secured by CHSFS Ethiopia, over a 12-18 month period.
- Grouped families, depending on their collective skills, knowledge and interests will select an appropriate business start-up design, including but not limited to injera making and retailing, bread baking and retailing, kiosk shop ownership, and street food vending.
- Businesses already operating are bread and injera bakeries.
- After 18 months in operation, businesses will be evaluated for effectiveness and sustainability and a determination will be made regarding the continuation of this program.
