Due to poverty in Peru, birth parents, especially single mothers, sometimes find providing for a child is difficult. Birth mothers may seek care for their children at hospitals, orphanages, etc. In some cases children available for adoption have been removed from their birth family due to abuse or neglect - reconciliation has failed, and adoptive parents are sought. Additionally, of course, children may have lost their parents. Public orphanages give care and schooling to children until adoptive parents are found.
Families can view children eligible for adoption on Peru's Waiting Angels list. The list, called Angeles que Aguardan is a website in Spanish, but families can contact Olga Tasso for translation.
Children on the Waiting Angels list can range in age from 1 to 14 years old. Accurate medical reports and a social history are just part of the information available with your referral. They may have medical issues, need additional medical evaluation, have special needs, or are part of a sibling group (with or without special needs; youngest child in a sibling group will generally be age 7 and up).
