Thank you for your interest in adopting from Peru through Children's Home Society & Family Services (CHSFS).
In June 1993, the Peruvian government determined that a governmental entity would again be put in charge to supervise the adoption process. As a result, the Secretaria Nacianal de Adopciones (SNA) was formed. The SNA is the Central Authority for all the adoptions system in Perú. They give all the norms and regulations on everything related to adoptions. It is a department of MIMDES, which stands for Ministerio de Promoción de la Mujer y del Desarrollo Humano (Ministry for the Promotion of Women and Human Development).
The SNA is responsible for assigning children to adoptive parents, processing abandonment, negotiating agreements with agencies, doing the follow up of the adoption for 4 years through the post placement reports, and supervising the actions of the approved agencies.
Children are in small orphanages, called Homes. They receive good care and keep the medical and social history of the child. These homes are under the supervision of the SNA. A total of 294 children have been placed by the SNA with families living in Peru, Italy, Spain. Sweden, Canada and USA.
