CHSFS works cooperatively with many agencies throughout the U.S.
Families planning to adopt a child internationally must have an approved adoption study completed by a licensed and insured adoption agency or practitioner in their state of residence. CHSFS prepares adoption studies for families in Minnesota, Iowa, and western Wisconsin. CHSFS-East works with families living in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Many families adopting internationally use two agencies (one to complete the adoption study and one to facilitate the necessary international process). CHSFS has standing Partner relationships with the agencies listed below and has worked successfully with each of them to place children with adopting families around the United States.
However, CHSFS cannot and does not endorse, control or guarantee the services of any other agency or country. Every agency is an independent entity, responsible for maintaining its own standards of practice, professional licenses and insurance.
Agencies not listed may be used for adoption study services, but please be sure to thoroughly research their practice standards before making a choice, including checking to see that they are1) licensed in your home state, 2) carry liability insurance on their practice (a minimum of $1,000,000 is required) and 3) is willing to sign the CHSFS cooperating agency agreement (will be sent to agency upon your application to CHSFS). Reputable agencies are available to answer all of your questions and typically offer information meetings at no charge.
