Do we have to travel to Korea to receive our child?

Families may choose to have their child escorted, or they may travel to Korea to meet their child. Time from referral acceptance to placement can be up to five months.  If your child is escorted, the child will arrive at one of the major airports in the United States. You will usually receive 2-5 days notice of arrival date and time. If you travel to bring your child home, you will attend a travel orientation meeting at CHSFS or receive a travel information packet if you live outside of Minnesota. Travelling families spend at least five days in Korea,  so they can spend time learning about their child’s birth country.

Please read our Escort and Travel Guidelines

Families have the opportunity to become acquainted with Korean culture through the Korea Day Workshop, offered at our agency. Families are encouraged to invite their extended families to learn about Korean family life and customs. Participation in this workshop can happen while a family is waiting for a referral, waiting for a travel date, or after the family has returned from Korea.
