CHSFS was one of the first agencies to facilitate birthland tours. In addition to our years of experience, there are also many other reasons families choose us.
The adoption focus: travel with staff that includes adoptive parents, bi-lingual cultural experts, social workers. adopted adults, and post-adoption experts.
The support: detailed orientation session prior to travel, special pre-tour meetings for young adults, and pre- and post-travel counseling all included as part of the tour package.
EXPERIENCED STAFF
The people who guide and prepare you for this travel experience are a major factor in your decision.
-
Do the individuals you have entrusted to lead your adoption-focused tour have knowledge and experience in handling your specific travel needs?
-
Can they provide you and your family with pre- and post-trip consultations?
-
Do they have firsthand knowledge of the host country's culture?
-
Do they have counseling experience and the ability to offer needed support and insight?
CHSFS social work staff has extensive service experience to support your family at these important points throughout your journey. Since 1986 we have led adoption-focused tours to discover the culture and history of this “Land of the Morning Calm.”
STRONG ORGANIZATIONAL ROOTS IN KOREA
Children's Home Society & Family Services' responsibility to Korea goes beyond simply supporting the adoption process. The organization plays a role in supporting the children who remain in orphanages and in improving quality of life for families in need. Because so much depends upon personal relationships in Korea, it is important for you to choose a tour that is sponsored by an agency that has worked to develop positive ties to the social-service agencies and government programs that facilitate adoption practice and policy. CHSFS has earned the trust and respect of Korea’s international social-service agencies and has the ability to make your travel experience secure, comprehensive and as accurate to current culture and adoption trends as possible.
SERVICES RESPONSIVE TO YOUR CHILD’S QUESTIONS
Intermediary Post Adoption Services offered as part of the tour:
-
A visit to orphanage where a child spent their early life
-
A search for birthparents*
-
Meeting with the orphanage director or a care provider from a child’s early life
-
Meeting the foster family (if one exists)
-
Locating the site where the child was found
Only through relationships that we have nurtured over time can such opportunities be offered. Please note that the ultimate decision will be established by the orphanage policy in place when the visit occurs. CHSFS has a long history of Post-Adoption Services and established ties to the adoption services in Korea. We are dedicated to creating opportunities that meet the needs of your family.
*There is an additional fee for this intermediary service only. The cost is what CHSFS is charged by the Korean agency.
TRAVEL WITH FELLOW ADOPTIVE FAMILIES
Sharing the journey with other families who have built their family through adoption provides a ready-made support group.
-
Parents find other adoptive families to be supportive and knowledgeable of the similar circumstances that helped build their families.
-
Children value a travel experience shared with the other children. They can provide companionship, and peers are a resource children use to discuss the many adoption experiences and feelings they encounter on the trip.
