This project was inspired by the dire need of many children diagnosed with medical conditions in Tianjins orphanage to have one-on-one care in a family setting. Such care will help them achieve better physical and emotional well-being by receiving individualized attention away from institutionalized care. This allows the children to make progress with the treatments administered for their special needs and increases the possibility for permanency through adoption. The reports collected while a child remains in a foster home greatly improve the documentation available to prospective adoptive parents as well as medical professionals, enabling an adoptive parent to make a well-informed decision about whether or not the needed care can be provided for the child once adopted. Also it enables the medical professional to identify necessary treatment or therapy for the child. Our representative in Tianjin helps the orphanage monitor the children placed in these foster homes with regular visits and collects medical and developmental progress reports including photos on each child. We are currently supporting 20 children in foster care.

Support for Social Welfare Initiatives
Funds raised will support a variety of initiatives to strengthen care, improve conditions and increase opportunities for children residing in Chinas extensive network of social and child welfare institutions. Such initiatives will include new training programs for caregivers or orphanage directors, vocational or similar training for older children, facility upgrades, providing equipment for children with special needs and purchasing needed supplies in general for the care centers. The amount of money raised will determine the number of orphanages to be equipped.

In the past, CHSFS has sponsored training programs for caregivers on the nutritional needs of children and donated extensive medical equipment to orphanages (primarily for children with special needs or prematurely born children).
