| In November 2003 Children's Home Society & Family Services received its NGO (non-governmental organization) registration to place children from Ethiopia with US Citizens. CHSFS has helped more than 900 children from Ethiopia become adopted by a family in the US, and many more are in the adoption process now.
Sibling groups, infants, and older waiting children are available for adoption. While wait-times fluctuate, currently the estimated time of processing is three to five months from when referral is accepted to when a family travels to receive their child. Families who choose to have their child escorted will file final immigration paperwork in the US, which extends the wait approximately two months until the child travels.
