Families interested in the ICBF government-sponsered Colombia program, and families of Colombian heritage can enter the program immediately.

We are currently taking applications from families open to older children, sibling groups, and children with special needs, or applications for infants from Colombian-American families.  Colombian-American families should call Olga Tasso (651-255-2204) for the cost of their adoption because the administrative services of ICBF in Colombia are free of charge to them.

It takes approximately four months for a family to complete an adoption study. We ask you to complete your study with our agency if you live in Minnesota, Iowa, or Western Wisconsin.   If you are outside this area you may choose to use one of our partner agencies to complete your study if you are not currently working with a local adoption agency.

During this time you will also assemble the U.S. Government BCIS (immigration) documents and the Colombian required documents.  This is referred to as the "dossier," and also takes a few months.

Once approved by the Colombian adoption agency, you are added to the waiting list of families ready to receive a child referral. A referral includes a photo of the child, background information on the child and birth parents (as much as can be obtained,) and a medical report. The waiting time varies with each Colombian agency, and are somewhat unpredictable. Duration of your wait will be shorter if you've requested an older or special needs child, and longer if you are asking for a young child.

After you accept a referral you will plan your trip to Colombia to receive your child, possibly traveling within two weeks.
