Many women may feel they don't know very much about adoption or may know only what they see on TV or in magazines. In the past, women that made an adoption plan often never saw the child or knew what happened to their child.
Things are different now. There are many choices for birth parents. CHSFS practices Open Adoption, which means you meet, select and work cooperatively with the adoption parents to plan for the child.
Adoption is not abandoning your child or "giving your child away". It is making a loving and conscious plan to provide your child with the things you are unable to give at this time in your life. Nobel Laureate Gabriela Mistral has said,
"Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, his mind is being developed. To him we cannot say tomorrow. His name is today."
